Elm class is a Reception and Year 1 class. The class teacher is Mr O'Reilly and the teaching assistants are Mrs C Pinion and Mrs S Andrews.
Our topic this term is Animals.’ We shall be looking at different types of animals and their habitats which the children show an interest in . We begin the term with the focus being under the sea and using the book ’Hooray for Fish’ by Lucy Cousins
We shall be exploring a range of things and be led by the children’s interests within these subjects, which allows us to curiosity and develop knowledge of the world around us and get creative with ideas from each area of animals we learn through.
We will continue to learn our unknown sounds and begin to understand how to read words and write our letters correctly to write words and simple sentences. .
In maths, we shall using the Mastery Maths approach which looks at numbers in great depth. All of this will be completed with numbers 1-20. We shall also be continuing to understand patterns including within numbers. We shall also explore ordinal numbers which work well alongside sports day in the Summer term!
Year 1 children will be using the same texts as a stimulus for their learning in English. Part of their English lessons will be alongside the Reception children but they will also work separately to develop their sentence writing skills. In Maths, the Year 1 children will work separately. The main focus will be on their basic number skills, including addition and subtraction involving larger numbers.
Our PE days are Monday for all children in Willow and Elm.
Year 1 children will have another PE session on Tuesdays.
