Summer Term 2026
In English this term, we will be writing an informal letter based on the short film The Alchemist’s Letter followed by diary entries as an evacuated child during WWII. We will finish with poetry based on WWII. Comprehension skills and VIPERS will continue with our class book being Kensuke's Kingdom.
In maths, we will continue to focus on improving our arithmetic skills, using appropriate methods for all 4 operations. As always, we will be working on knowing our times tables and using these to help with our mental methods. We will continue working on areas such as fractions, decimals and percentages as well as a number of other areas.
Our PE days change for the first half term. Due to having a wonderful opportunity to have a cricket coach coming into school, Monday's PE will not take place for the time being. A number of Y5 children will go swimming on Wednesday mornings with the remaining Y5 children and all Y4 children taking part in a cricket session. Their normal Wednesday afternoon lessons will continue. Please ensure that a full PE kit is in school with suitable clothing for both inside and outside lessons.
In science we will look at reversible and irreversible changes before moving on to reproduction.
Art lessons will focus on using mixed media to create portraits. Our DT project will be looking at structures and building a bridge.
We will be looking at oceans in geography, how important they are and how we need to look after them. After half term we will move to history and look at World War 2. We have an exciting trip planned to help with our history topic.
In computing we will be learning how to manipulate photos carrying out changes such as cropping and enhancing. We will then move on to coding games. In French we will be learning how to describe people followed by learning to tell the time. In RE we will learn about Christianity and the resurrection followed by learning about humanism.
