Autumn 1
A warm welcome to all as we start a brand new academic year! There is a lot to look forward to. We will be starting the term with a calm, welcoming transition, filled with team-building activities, settling into our new classroom and establishing our new routines!
Our focus this term will be 'Me in my world!' We will be exploring ourselves and the world around us through the different subjects:
In English, we will be looking at a poetry anthology called Out and About by Shirley Hughes. We will be venturing outside, reflecting on our own hobbies and experiences and building up poetry-writing skills! In Geography, we will be exploring our school, using fieldwork, compasses and Google Maps to locate our school. In Art, we will be creating land art, using the environment to explore patterns and printing. In Science, we will be exploring the human body, carrying out exciting experiments to test our 5 senses and learn more about ourselves! In PATHs and PSHE, we will be focusing on establishing a positive classroom climate, health and well being, hygiene and staying safe in the sun.
In Maths, we will be looking at numbers to 10, becoming confident with recognition, counting and using lots of fun practical resources.
We will have opportunities for active learning and play that is linked to our topics throughout the day, using our classroom, activity area and outside space!
Our P.E days will be Tuesdays (indoor) and Wednesdays (outdoor). Please ensure P.E kits are labelled to avoid missing items. This should include a plain t-shirt in house colours where possible, trainers, shorts and tracksuit bottoms/ leggings for the colder months. Thank you!
You can expect a weekly update e-mail from the Year 1 team on a Friday! I look forward to the year ahead and any questions, please do get in touch via e-mail, the office or on the playground.
