Elm

Elm class is a Key Stage 1 class with children from year 1.  The class teachers are Mr Holland and Mrs Box and we are supported by Mrs Naylor, Mrs Higgins and Mrs Stephenson (Tuesdays).

Summer 2

We will be starting our English learning this term by exploring fictional videos and comparing the ideas in these stories to children’s own experiences, followed by the classic story Where The Wild Things Are.

In Maths, we will be looking at numbers up to 100, money and time.

Science - we will be learning about growing and cooking food, including seasonal changes that occur in summer. This will link to our work in Design Technology (DT) where we will be learning about cooking and nutrition including balanced diets.

In History we will be learning about explorers and how they have changed the world. In our PSHE and PATHS lessons, we will continue to explore and discuss what makes us special and different, physical contact and getting ready for our transition up to Year 2 in September. ICT - children will be practising their general computer skills - how to login to their Chromebooks, how to navigate around the Desktop and to improve their Internet searching and typing skills. In Music, we will continue to learn about the music of Australia and also using percussion instruments.

Our P.E days will be Tuesdays (indoor) and Wednesdays (outdoor) where we will be practising our athletics and cricket skills the children will also be practising their running / jumping / throwing / catching / balancing / relay skills ready for Sports Day in July. Please ensure P.E kits are labelled to avoid missing items. This should include a plain t-shirt in house colours where possible, trainers and shorts (as it is getting warmer).

You can expect a weekly update e-mail from the Year 1 team on a Friday. If you have any questions, please do get in touch via the office e-mail or on the playground.

Frog Life Cycle

Elm class have been able to collect some of the frog spawn from our school pond.  Luckily, the frog spawn was ready just at the same time that we finished our Guided Reading book 'Tad' about a tadpole that grows into a froglet and then a fully-grown frog.  We will be posting regular pictures about how the frogspawn is transforming into hungry tadpoles then slimy frogs.
