Spring Term 2024

This term in English we will be working on a book called Shackleton’s Journey. This is a nonfiction book about Earnest Shacketon’s attempt to reach Antarctica and the South Pole. The children will each take on a role as one of Shackleton’s team, writing an application to join the team as well as researching the role their person had on his team. We will also combine some artwork into this topic which will include drawing and making something out of clay.

Our VIPERS book for the first half term Holes by Louis Sachar

As ever, we will continue working on spelling and grammar throughout the term.

PE on a Monday this half term is called Enrichment. This allows us to experience a wide variety of activities that aren’t normally covered in the rest of the PE curriculum. Wednesday’s PE lesson will be Tag Rugby.

Our Geography topic for this term is Extreme Weather and Natural Disasters. We will be looking at floods, tornados, earthquakes and similar destructive acts of nature.

We will be looking at Evolution and Inheritance in Science, learning about why we look the way we do and how other forms of life came to be the way they are today.

RE: Hinduism and Buddhism.

DT: Cooking and nutrition.

ICT: Concept maps and app design.

Online Safety: Safer Internet.

French: Chez Moi + additional activities.

Music: Year 5 - Brass. Year 6 - Composition, notation, terminology and culturally significant music.

Our PE days continue to be Monday and Wednesday.  Please ensure that a full PE kit is in school on both days.  With cold weather likely most weeks, please also ensure that your child has suitable clothing to keep them warm outside during their PE lesson.

To learn more about our curriculum in Year 5/6, head to the Curriculum pages on our website or speak to one of the Year 5/6 team.

Please make sure that your child has a water bottle in school every day.

We’re looking forward to an exciting spring term.

Mr Robinson, Mrs Eves and Mrs Rowe.
